Question:

Do I need to renew my license if I am currently unemployed?

Answer:

An individual is required to have a license only if practicing dietetics/nutrition either as a volunteer or for a fee as defined in the law.

However, if an individual has a license and decides to not renew because he/she is not currently practicing dietetics in North Carolina or is working in a position where he/she is exempt from North Carolina’s licensure law, this individual must notify NCBDN of his/her inactive status by completing an “Inactive Status” form before his/her license expires on March 31st and submitting it to the NCBDN. This individual must also surrender to the NCBDN his/her licensure certificate.
