The law restricts the use of the title “dietitian,” “nutritionist,” or “licensed dietitian/nutritionist,” alone or in combination. The law also prohibits anyone, other than a licensed dietitian, from using any words, abbreviations, letters, insignia, etc. tending to indicate the licensed practice of dietetics. Only licensed persons can use dietitian or nutritionist as a part of their position title. By definition, the terms “Nutritionist,” “Nutrition Counselor,” and like terms tend to imply or indicate that a person is a licensed dietitian/nutritionist.
