The law defines the requirements for an individual to become licensed to provide nutrition or dietetic services. With specific provisions, the law does provide an exemption for individuals who provide weight control services.
A weight control service can have a significant impact on the health and well being of its patrons. To assure that weight control services doing business in North Carolina follow minimum safety guidelines, the law requires that each program be reviewed annually by a certified reviewer. After the review, the application is then forwarded to the North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition for final action.
This program, "Making Weight Control Services Safe in North Carolina: An Independent Training Program for Certified Reviewers" has been designed to train the Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) to be a certified reviewer of weight control services. It is organized into four parts:
- Law: The Act to Regulate the Practice of Dietetics/Nutrition
- Rules that govern weight control service review
- Standards that each program must meet to be approved
- Procedures reviewers must follow
Test questions follow each of the four parts, and two case studies are included at the end of the fourth section which are part of the exam.
You can expect to spend 12 hours to complete this program. All of the resources that you will need to complete the test questions are included in the North Carolina Weight Control Guidelines on Nutrition: Standards for Safe Weight Control and this self-study program. The application form and completed test questions must be postmarked for return within 45 days from the packet's postmark.
