The North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition and the reviewer of the weight control program/service are independent parties. Each party has a unique and separate role in reviewing weight control programs/services in North Carolina.
The reviewer’s role is to provide an on-site evaluation of the weight control program and either approve or deny approval of the program’s compliance with the Dietetic Practice Act, Rules, and Guidelines. The reviewer is responsible for submitting the report with adequate supporting documentation to the Board.
The NCBDN provides the guidelines for reviewing weight control programs and a self study training and certification program to aid reviewers in determining compliance with the Act and Rules and in assessing adherence with the standards. The Board maintains a list of Certified Reviewers which it makes available to weight control programs seeking a reviewer. After reviewing reports submitted by the reviewers, the Board sends certificates to those programs receiving approval and letters advising programs of the necessary course of action if approval is denied. The NCBDN maintains files on all weight control programs reviewed and makes available copies of the reports on these programs to any party requesting such information. Upon receipt of a complaint concerning a person providing a weight control program or a reviewer, the Board may investigate the situation to determine if there is a violation of the Act or the Rules.
